Government Reform

"A government for the people, by the people and of the people; must be representative of the people and we have too many lawyers and executives representing."
-Mark Bignell

Elections
It's my position that elections should be a week long process, using audit ready paper ballots and electronic readers. Its time to reform.

Campaign Finance Reform
Michigan campaign finance laws allow for some of the least transparent races in the nation. Its time, to bring some transparency to this process.

The following campaign finance reform measures are based on the principle that the right to free speech applies equally to all.
  • Institute reasonable limits on contributions made to an issue on the ballot or a candidate for public office.
  • Institute reasonable limits on expenditures advocating for or against any such candidate or for or against an issue on the ballot.
  • Institute reasonable limits on a candidate’s own expenditures.
  • Institute reasonable limits on the expenditures for or against an issue on the ballot.
  • Institute a requirement for asset disclosure (for conflict of interest analysis).
  • Institute a framework for public campaign financing.

7 Year Employment Ban For Firms That Employ Lobbyists
Michigan legislators must wait seven years after leaving office before they can accept employment, or payment for any services performed, from any firm that engages in or contributes to lobbying activities.

Tie Michigan Legislative Salaries to Median Income
Currently, the base pay for a rank-and-file member of the Michigan state legislature is $71,685 per year, which equates to about 138% of the state median income (~$52,000 per year). This reform would lock in that percentage including cost of living adjustments.
