Criminal Justice Reform

"There comes a time, in every generation, where what was once acceptable has become unacceptable."
-Mark Bignell

Vacating Cannabis Consumption/Possession Convictions—Misdemeanors
With efforts underway to legalize and decriminalize the recreational use and possession of Cannabis, it would be morally correct to vacate the convictions of those whose sole offense was possession and consumption of Cannabis. With the legal climate of this federally controlled and state regulated substance changing in this way, I propose we vacate these convictions and restore these Michigander's basic freedoms and lives.

Commuting Nonviolent Cannabis Distribution Sentences—Felonies
Under this proposal, to qualify for this reform, the convicted trafficker, must not have a history of violent offenses, or used, possessed a firearm at the time of apprehension. Under this proposal, the reformed will have their sentenced commuted, however the record will remain, until the reformed qualifies for expungement.

Expunging of Non-violent Related Offenses
I propose, that the State of Michigan, reforms and streamlines the record expungement process, for reformed nonviolent related offenses.
