Budget & Tax Reform
"Our budget is no different, than any other budget in our land. We cannot borrow our way to prosperity, it must be earned."
-Mark Bignell
Fiscal Responsibility
Fiscal Responsibility means not taking a foolish oath, limiting your ability to address the fiscal issues at hand. It's fiscally conservative to underestimate income, and overestimate payments out.
Balanced Budget
It is absolutely abhorrent that many legislatures are either unwilling or unable to balance the budget. It is simple, you must increase taxes, cut spending, or both. You cannot succeed by using only one tool.
State Tax Full Disclosure Act
This would require all state tax filers to receive at point of submission (electronic or USPS after analog processing), a disclosure receipt of where the state allocated taxpayers tax payments for projects, services, and programs. The receipt would be generated and populated with information, which itemizes estimated dollars to infrastructure, schools, government operations, government programs, safety net programs, government debt, etc.
In providing this information at the time of tax filings, state tax anxiety would be diminished and this would foster a new age of government transparency and accountability.
Consumption Tax
I propose a new state consumption tax, upon the state decriminalization of the cannabis cash crop. This modest tax, would be used to help fund Michigan based Universal Single Payer, and other state liabilities.
Income Tax
The low rates at the highest earning brackets have dragged down our states ability to balance a budget, maintain our structures and maintain our services. It's time to adjust the upper rates and restore sensible fiscal balance.
Tax Stability
State Income Tax: At the lower rates, I would not raise rates on those least able to provide for themselves. Their dignity and independence depends on that promise.
Corporate Welfare
It's time to end wasted subsidies on industries, that are mature in their development. Any state subsidy which is negligible in produced results should be immediately halted and terminated.
